First responders in Harwich rescued a child trapped in a hole on the beach on Monday, authorities said.

Harwich firefighters said in a Facebook post that they responded to Brooks Road Beach Monday night. There, firefighters said, they found the child sitting in a hole three feet wide and deep, buried up to chest level.

Firefighters “cautiously” began to remove the child, the post said. Emergency personnel brought in a protective tube to keep the child safe while they continued to dig.

The post said firefighters, along with Harwich police officers, had the child out within 15 minutes. No injuries were reported.

Harwich Beach rules and regulations states that a child under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. According to the document, the culprits are arrested and fined up to 50 dollars. It is not clear if the child was being watched when he became trapped in the hole.
