Tulare man faces murder charges under special circumstances after double homicide, prosecutor says

Fabian Gamez, 30, of Tulare, was charged with murder under special circumstances the stabbing death of two Tulare residents during an early morning burglary Thursday, the Tulare County District Attorney’s Office said in a news release Tuesday.

According to the news release, Gamez faces two counts of first-degree murder and one count of first-degree burglary.

Prosecutors added special circumstance charges, including multiple murders, committing the murders during a burglary and use of a deadly weapon.

They also argue that the victims were vulnerable and that the crime involved planning and violent behaviour.

At his arraignment Tuesday, Gamez entered a not guilty plea. His next court appearance is scheduled for Nov. 8 in Tulare County Superior Court Department 18, where a preliminary hearing conference will be held.

If convicted, Gamez could face either the death penalty or life in prison without parole under California sentencing laws, according to officials.
