Sea of Thieves servers suddenly taken offline for ’emergency maintenance’

Developer Rare shut down the Sea of Thieves servers without any prior warning on October 29, 2024, to perform “emergency maintenance”. Active players sailing the seas in search of their next great treasure at that time were unceremoniously kicked out of the game, losing any wealth in their possession.

“Unfortunately, we have no choice but to take the Sea of Thieves servers offline now for emergency maintenance,” the studio said on social media. “We apologize for any disruption to your browsing – we’ll let you know as soon as you’re free to start again.”

There is no indication as to what exactly caused the emergency maintenance. Servers are usually shut down and maintained on a set schedule, allowing players to plan for downtime and avoid losing their progress. Obviously, something unusual must have occurred for Rare to take this drastic step.

Rare recently had to disable certain game features due to a bug associated with them, so they may want to apply the hotfix for this as soon as possible, but this is currently unconfirmed.

Sea of Thieves is currently following it 2024 Update Roadmap and it was released on PS5 earlier this yearwhere he achieved great results.
