One person is injured after an officer-involved shooting in St. Paul, Monday.

Officers from St. Paul were called to the intersection of Snelling and University Avenue West around 7:45 p.m. for a report of shots fired. There, police found a man armed with a handgun near Snelling and Charles avenues.

The police of St. Paul says that’s when the man with the gun pointed it at his own head, and police then began to negotiate with him. After he refused, police say the man began walking south on Snelling and officers continued to talk and follow him.

The man did not put the gun down or surrender and continued to walk south until he reached the intersection of University and Snelling avenues where he walked away.

There, police say they used less-lethal projectiles to try to get him to put the gun down, and the man pointed his gun at officers, causing them to fire their weapons and hit him.

Afterward, police say they treated the man for what are believed to be life-threatening injuries. He was then taken to Regional Hospital and is said to be in critical condition.

Officials say no officers were injured during the shooting.
