Have you finished filling out your Arizona ballot? Here’s when to send it back

play

Election day is near. If you plan to mail-in your ballot, now is the time to vote in Arizona.

All ballots must be received by 7:00 PM on Election Day to be counted. If you are sending your ballot back, you should mail it no later than five to seven days before Election Day to ensure it is delivered on time. This year, the final recommended date for returning the ballot is October 29.

If you’re a rural voter, consider allowing extra time. In some remote areas of the state, ballots are transported by postal workers across county and state lines to larger cities for sorting — and then must be transported back to county election officials.

Here’s what you need to know about returning your ballot – and making sure it counts.

Do I need a stamp for my postal ballot?

Postage is prepaid, so your ballot does not require a stamp.

If I miss the deadline, can I still vote?

You can still vote by casting your ballot in a secure box or by voting in person at a polling station. It is not recommended to send your ballot after October 29, as it may not reach election officials in time to be counted.

Where are the ballot boxes near me?

Most counties in Arizona offer at least a handful of these boxes. Some are located inside polling stations and are only accessible when those stations are open. Others are located outdoors and are available to voters at all times.

To find ballot boxes in your area, check your county’s electoral website.

The Maricopa County Recorder’s Office provides polling locations and drop box information on his website.

When is the last day to vote?

Election Day is Tuesday, November 5. Polls are open that day from 6:00 AM to 7:00 PM.

If you return or mail in your ballot, it must be received by 7:00pm to be counted.

If you are voting in person, you must be in line by 7pm to vote.

Some counties assign polling stations to voters based on their voting district. Others use a vote center model where voters can go to any polling place in the county to cast their vote. Check with your county election officials for details.

Can I check the status of my vote?

Yes. Maricopa County voters can track their ballot at BeBallotReady.Vote. Pima County voters can track their ballot the county registrar’s website. Voters in other parts of Arizona can track their ballot via BallotTrax.

Will election officials contact me if there is a problem with my ballot?

Yes. If election workers can’t verify the signature on the outside of the early voting envelope, they will try to get in touch to make sure you are the person who filled it out.

That’s why there’s a place for your phone number on the early voting envelope – so if election staff have questions, they can get in touch.

If you hear from election officials, be sure to respond as soon as possible. State law provides a limited window to fix improper signatures and ensure your ballots are counted.

Do you have any more questions?

The Arizona Secretary of State’s Office provides contact information for election officials per county.

All voters can contact the Secretary of State’s Office at 1-877-THE-VOTE or 602-542-8683.
