Bullet fired by robbers at bus stop goes through Chatham home and hits woman inside

A woman inside an apartment was shot by a bullet fired by robbers at the bus stop Monday night in Chatham on the South Side.

About 9:30 p.m., a 34-year-old man was at a bus stop in the 8200 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue when he was approached by three armed men who demanded his property, Chicago police said.

As the robbers took the man’s property, the victim began to run away, prompting the gunmen to open fire, police said.

While the robbery victim was not shot, a 20-year-old woman was when a bullet tore through an apartment building in the 8200 block of South Evans Avenue.

She was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where she was listed in good condition, police said.

Area 2 detectives are investigating, but no arrests have been made.
