SIUH names new director of hematology, oncology at Florina Cancer Center

STATEN ISLAND, NY – Staten Island University Hospital (SIUH) has named Dr. Thomas Bradley director of hematology and oncology at the Florina Cancer Center in Ocean Breeze to lead the division’s clinical, educational and research initiatives.

In addition to his new role, Bradley will continue to serve as the System Chief for Genitourinary Cancers at Northwell Health Cancer Institute, where he manages prostate, kidney, bladder and testicular cancers using combinations of chemotherapy, immunotherapy and targeted therapy.

Bradley has had a significant impact on Northwell Health since joining in 2002, according to the hospital’s announcement. He is currently Head of the GU Cancer System at Northwell Cancer Institute, a role he has held since 2019.

Additionally, he has been an attending physician at Long Island Jewish Medical Center, Queens, since 2004 and a full-time staff member at North Shore University Hospital, Long Island, since 2002. Throughout his tenure, Bradley has led various studies clinical and educational. initiatives, including serving as fellowship program director for Hematology/Oncology.

With more than three decades of distinguished contributions to the field of oncology, Bradley is highly regarded for his expertise in genitourinary cancer, as evidenced by numerous abstract and poster presentations at the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) and his sought-after speaker role at regional prostate cancer support groups, SIUH said in announcing the appointment.

Deeply committed to advancing medical education, Bradley was a featured speaker at the Alliance for Academic Internal Medicine (APDIM) Chief Resident Meeting on Optimizing the Fellowship Experience and was named a finalist for the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) Parker J Award. Palmer “The Courage to Teach” for Program Director Excellence. He is currently an associate professor at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell.

A prominent researcher, Bradley was the principal investigator of trials sponsored by the pharmaceutical industry and the National Cancer Institute (NCI). He received the NCI Community Oncology Research Program Silver Certificate of Excellence for outstanding achievement in patient enrollment in NCI cancer treatment and control trials. His research interests include how cancer affects elderly patients and their caregivers.

“We are extremely grateful to Dr. Bradley for his extensive service at Northwell Health, as his dedication and expertise have significantly advanced our oncology services,” said Dr. Brahim Ardolic, President of Staten Island University Hospital. “His new appointment is especially important to our hospital as he returns to his Staten Island roots.”

Bradley is a member of various medical organizations, including the American Society of Hematology, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Association for Cancer Research, and the American College of Physicians. He has been recognized multiple times as the “Castle Connolly Top Doctor” in the New York metropolitan area.

After developing an interest in medicine in high school, Bradley became an emergency department volunteer and later an emergency medical technician. He received his medical degree from the University of Monterrey School of Medicine and completed his internal medicine residency and hematology and medical oncology fellowship at SUNY Downstate Medical Center.

Bradley is triple board certified in internal medicine, hematology and medical oncology.
