Suspected burglars caught on camera robbing Orlando home, police say

ORLANDO, Fla.Orlando police officers are investigating a burglary at a home where the homeowner told FOX 35 he caught the whole thing on video. All the while, the accused burglars had no idea there were cameras in every room.

The suspected burglars were seen on camera taking their time as they rummaged through William McKnight’s Orlando home. McKnight said his 15-year-old nephew was home alone and opened the door without first checking who it was.

“Open the door, there are two individuals, a man and a woman outside. Once he opens the door, they say, “Hi, are your parents home?” He says, “No, I’m not at home.” They immediately go into the apartment, so he steps back and says, “Whoa, what’s going on?” That’s when I pull the gun,” McKnight explained.

McKnight said one of the alleged robbers could be seen holding a gun in the video. He said his nephew was terrified. All he could do was accompany the man and woman from room to room as they searched for whatever they thought was valuable.

“So in the living room I had a crossbody bag, they took the bag,” McKnight said. “They come into my bedroom and go from place to place. They go into drawers and take watches, bracelets, any money they can find, go to the closet, have him get a ladder out of the kitchen, am I asking him if there are safes in the house?

The man and woman did not see everywhere the network of small cameras that captured everything.

“So when the burglars came in, they didn’t realize there were cameras all over this house. They just walked in and thought, ‘We hit the jackpot!'” McKnight said.

McKnight contacted Orlando police, who opened an investigation. He hoped it was only a matter of time before they were caught. He said police are also looking at street videos that could help catch the suspected thieves.

“Someone will recognize these people,” he said. “It’s not a blurry camera, it’s sharp sharp angles and full frontal views.”
