Police are warning the public about home improvement scams

GLASTONBURY, CT (WFSB) – Police are warning the public to remain vigilant against home improvement scams that have been reported in New England.

Several departments are investigating these scams, which have similar characteristics.

The scammers, often described as white men with Irish, British or Australian accents, specifically target elderly homeowners.

They usually approach victims outside their homes or knock on doors, pretending to identify problems with roofs or chimneys.

Using business cards for non-existent companies, these individuals pressure victims into signing contracts on the spot.

Once they receive the payment, the scammers are unable to return to perform any work.

The suspects frequently change their business names to avoid detection, with reported aliases including “Smithy Masonry and Construction,” “Stormtight Roofing and Masonry,” and “A1 Roofing,” among others.
