Five from Tucson arrested in connection with stolen vehicles, street pickups

TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) — The Arizona DPS Vehicle Theft Task Force has arrested five people, recovered four stolen vehicles and impounded nine more vehicles in Tucson.

In early October 2024, DPS detectives located three stolen vehicles in a driveway behind a home in northwest Tucson.

Detectives initiated surveillance and further investigation revealed that the stolen cars and other vehicles at the residence were associated with a car club involved in street pickups in Tucson.

On Oct. 19, detectives recovered a stolen Dodge Charger at a residence in Marana while it was being cut up and broken into. Two suspects, identified as Jiovany Arellano, 21, and Cesar Duran, 31, left the property on foot when detectives arrived.

The task force said both suspects were found nearby and arrested and charged, including vehicle theft, burglary and operating a chop shop.

On Monday, Oct. 21, detectives executed a search warrant at the Tucson residence where the three stolen vehicles were initially located. Detectives recovered a Nissan 370z and Dodge Challenger and Cadillac CTS.

The task force then arrested 19-year-old Brandon Ortiz-Gonzales and 22-year-old Brian Ortiz-Gonzales. They were booked on charges of vehicle theft, burglary and operating a sawmill. Camron Patterson, 21, was also arrested for vehicle theft and burglary.

This investigation is ongoing. Anyone with additional information is asked to contact the DPS Vehicle Theft Task Force at [email protected].
