The FBI is investigating two ballot boxes that were set on fire early Monday morning, including one in a crucial district in Washington state.

MSNBCs Andrea Mitchell reported Monday, “Breaking news from the Pacific Northwest. State election officials are working to determine how many ballots were destroyed overnight after two arson attacks.

“Voting boxes were reportedly targeted in Vancouver, Washington and Portland, Oregon. Police found an incendiary device, this is their frame, inside a ballot box in Portland. County election officials word a fire extinguisher inside the box protected almost all the ballots. Only three were damaged. But Vancouver officials fear hundreds of ballots may have been damaged or even destroyed. It is not clear if the two are connected. The FBI is investigating,” Mitchell added.

Cook Political’s Dave Wasserman later noted the importance of ballots for the balance of power in the US House of Representatives. “This is in #WA03. In 2022, Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (D) just beats Joe Kent (R) here with 2,629 votes. Rematch is a throw upWasserman wrote on X.
