Police in Keller, Texas, have arrested a 45-year-old middle school teacher they accuse of having a sexual relationship with an underage student over the summer.

“On Monday, October 21st, Keller Police detectives arrested 45-year-old Angela Barnes without incident on charges of sexual assault of a child and improper relationship between an educator and student,” the Department said by Keller Police in Texas. a statement on social networks.

The department said it learned of the middle school teacher’s alleged “inappropriate relationship” with the boy in late September. The boy was one of Barnes’ former students, according to police.

“Detectives immediately began investigating the case and discovered that Barnes had a sexual relationship with a minor boy in June and July 2024 and that the relationship has since ended,” the statement said.

“At this time, we have no reason to believe there are additional victims,” ​​the statement added.

Barnes was arrested last week and booked into the Keller Regional Jail, according to police. Online jail records reviewed by PEOPLE showed Barnes was out of custody as of Monday.

Barnes was a teacher at Carroll Middle School, according to him Fort Worth Star-Telegram. The school is located in Southlake, Texas, a northwest suburb of Dallas.

Carroll School District said Local Fox 4 News that he “immediately” placed Barnes on administrative leave and alerted police when he learned of the alleged relationship.

The school district told the news outlet that based on information it received, the alleged sexual abuse did not occur on the school campus.

“The safety and security of all students is always our top priority and any allegations of adult misconduct are promptly addressed and reported immediately to the appropriate authorities,” the school district said.
