Walmart worker who ‘burned to death’ in bakery oven found by mother, family says

HALIFAX, Nova Scotia (Gray News) – The 19-year-old Walmart employee who was found dead in an oven in the bakery department of a store in Canada has been identified.

The family identified the worker as Gursimran Kaur a GoFundMe pagewriting that “she was found burned to death in the entrance furnace.”

According to Halifax Regional Policeofficers responded to the Walmart store in Halifax, Nova Scotia, for a “sudden death” on Oct. 19.

Police said the worker was found dead in a large walk-in oven in the store’s bakery department.

Kaur’s family said on the GoFundMe page that both she and her mother had worked at Walmart for the past two years.

The family said Kaur’s mother tried to find her daughter after she hadn’t seen her for an hour and she wasn’t answering the phone, which was “unusual”. The family said the mother eventually found her daughter in the oven.

“Imagine her mother’s horror when she opened the oven when someone showed her!” the GoFundMe page reads.

Police said a “complex” investigation was underway and did not confirm the cause and manner of death.

“The investigation is complex and involves multiple partner agencies. An investigation of this nature can take a significant amount of time,” police wrote in a statement.

The family also said they could not share additional details due to the ongoing investigation.

Kaur is originally from India and her family said she was a “beautiful young girl who came to Canada with big dreams.”

The GoFundMe page is no longer accepting donations because it has reached its fundraising goal.
