Day worker, accused of assaulting a disabled child

cross lanes, W. Va. (WSAZ) – A day care worker is accused of harming a disabled child in her care, according to court documents.

Deputies say the incident happened at Cross Lanes Child Care and Learning Center.

According to deputies, a former employee of the learning center along Big Tyler Road told deputies she saw Amber Elizabeth Seiler hit a 4-year-old child with special needs in the mouth with her hand and yell at the child during sleep.

The alleged abuse is said to have taken place in the summer of 2024.

Amber Seiler, of Kenova, was charged with assault and battery on a disabled child.

The West Virginia Department of Human Services (DoHS) has placed Cross Lanes Child Care and Learning Center on provisional license status and reduced the facility’s capacity to zero, according to a DoHS news release.

The decision comes into force on Sunday, October 27, 2024 – following serious non-compliance with state regulations regarding child care licensing, the release states.
