Police report reveals what led up to Myrtle Beach shooting

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – Documents obtained by WMBF News show what happened before a shooting in Myrtle Beach that led to two arrests.

Myrtle Beach police responded Oct. 18 to 95 Freedom Way for a shooting.

Officers spoke with witnesses who said their landlord, David Galfetti, 60, of Myrtle Beach, walked into the driveway and began “yelling that he was going to raise the rent on their apartment.” Police reported that Galfett was highly intoxicated and admitted to being drunk at the scene.

When Kevin Smith, 55, of Myrtle Beach, came outside, Galfetti started yelling at Smith and got in his face, according to the police report, which WMBF News obtained Monday.

Galfetti grabbed Smith by the throat and slammed him to the ground, telling Smith he had a gun in his pocket, the report said.

Witnesses pulled Galfetti off of Smith, and Galfetti got back in the car to drive away. Smith then went into his apartment and came back out with a gun, opening fire on Galfetti’s car, according to the report.

Police arrested Smith and Galfetti after investigating.
