Kearney man gets prison for robbery

KEARNEY, Neb. (KSNB) – A Kearney man will go to prison for his role in a May 2023 case involving a stolen truck and shots fired at its owner.

Ronnie Swartz, 28, was convicted of aiding and abetting a robbery, possession of meth and obstructing police. On Friday he was sentenced to 5-15 years in prison.

Swartz was arrested after a wild incident on May 18, 2023, when police said a person reported being robbed in his home at gunpoint and assaulted by two men, Swartz and Jerome Quinn, 28, of Omaha.

Later that morning, police said Quinn and Swartz stole a pickup truck from a west Kearney apartment complex parking lot.

Court records indicate the owner of the pickup followed the pair in another vehicle. Quinn later stopped driving the truck on West 18th Street and allegedly began shooting at the owner. The owner was not injured and deputies later found the truck abandoned on a gravel road just west of Kearney.

Police arrested Quinn and Swartz later that night at a home in east Kearney.

Quinn was convicted of robbery, theft, possession of burglar’s tools, drug possession, obstructing an officer and resisting arrest. A judge sentenced him to 13-16 years in prison on those charges.
