“Ghostbusters” of Great Falls brings joy during the Halloween season

GREAT FALLS — As Halloween approaches, you might recognize some familiar faces at events around town — die-hard fans of the iconic “Ghostbusters” franchise.

Club members attended the Kiwanis Club of Great Falls’ Trunk or Treat event Sunday, Oct. 27, 2024, at the Aim High Big Sky Recreation Center.

Ghostbusters of Great Falls brings joy during the Halloween season

“Honestly, it started with just the fact that the franchise itself is so hard to hate,” said James Bamfield, founder of Great Falls Ghostbusters. “For example, no one actively hates Ghostbusters.”

The group has an inflatable Stay-Puft marshmallow man, 3D printed gear and even a brand new license plate that shows the Ghostbusters are here in town.

It started simply for James Bamfield: bringing joy to people in the community.

“There’s always something bad happening, there’s always bad news or something,” Bamfield said. “It’s a bit of joy to bring back to the community.”

However, the Great Falls Ghostbusters are open about inclusion. To put it simply:

“Everyone is welcome at the fire station,” Bamfield said. “Regardless of race, ethnicity, sexuality, regardless of situation. All are welcome to the fire station and Ecto-1.”

Inclusion goes beyond just kind words. It is demonstrated in action, through the Teal Pumpkin Project.

“It’s really important to me that other people can be included,” said Jade Pray, another Great Falls Ghostbuster.

Pray explained that a green pumpkin represents allergy or dietary restrictions for young trick-or-treaters.

“That way, every kid that comes in has something they can have,” Pray said.

Ghostbuster superfans, bringing smiles around Electric City. In December, they will take the money they raised to buy toys for Toys For Tots.

“Follow your passion,” Bamfield said. “There’s no ceiling and there’s no wrong way to do it.”
