Ramya Haridas confident of breaking CPM power in Chelakkara, Pradeep determined to make a comeback

THRISSUR: Smooth village roads flanked by vast green expanses of paddy and hills covering almost the entire village, all coming together to create an unforgettable scenic view.

Chelakkara assembly constituency has countless sights to see. A village predominantly dependent on agriculture, it is home to 500 Scheduled Caste settlements. And with the November 13 poll just over two weeks away, the constituency is also abuzz with political activity as candidates ramp up their campaigns.

CPM’s K Radhakrishnan has represented Chelakkara in the assembly since 1996, except for 2016-21. His election to the Lok Sabha from Alathur earlier this year necessitated an opinion poll.

UDF candidate Ramya Haridas is confident of breaking CPM’s stranglehold in the constituency and in the process rewriting history.

“For the past few years, Chelakkara has lagged behind in development. In our interaction with the youth and women, the grievances they have and their positive response to the UDF coming to power here, is proof that the voters are dissatisfied. It will reflect in the by-elections,” said Ramya, who visited Ambedkar villages and SC settlements in the constituency on Sunday.

“Lack of proper road and scarcity of drinking water are the major issues that most of the people have raised before us. We promised to address all these issues,” she said.
