Warming up for the work week

HAZARD, Ky. (WYMT) – Temperatures in eastern Kentucky continued to be in the low to mid 60s Sunday with clear and sunny skies. Clear skies continue Monday as temperatures head into the low to mid 70s in the mountains.

HEADLINES:

  • Mild temperatures are returning
  • Chance of rain to end October
  • Driest October on record?

DISCUSSION:

A warmer week is ahead as temperatures will climb into the mid-70s by Monday and approach the 80-degree mark by Wednesday. Partly cloudy skies and warmer temperatures remain Thursday before a front brings a chance for rain, wind and possible thunderstorms on Halloween night. After the front, there’s a chance of rain Friday morning through the afternoon and then skies begin to clear. The rain forecast for Thursday is the last chance to get nearly half an inch of rain to keep October 2024 from being the driest October on record for eastern Kentucky.

Looking ahead:

The first week of November is forecast to have above average temperatures in the low to mid 70s and a slightly above average chance for precipitation. The rain will be much needed as October has been abnormally dry, making forested areas more prone to fire as we head into late autumn.
