Strong winds, cooler temperatures enter the SoCal forecast

Southern California is ahead of the scene times flurry as cooler temperatures, strong winds and chances of showers enter the forecast.

According to the National Weather Service, the high pressure that lingers through Sunday will give way to a cold low pressure system that will move through the west on Monday and Tuesday.

That means “drastic cooling” through Tuesday and for the rest of the week, the NWS said.

“Temperatures will drop considerably as a lot of cooler air moves in with northwesterly winds,” according to the forecast. “Afternoon high temperatures will be well below seasonal normal.”

Strong and gusty winds are the main concern for the area, the NWS said.

Strong winds are expected to intensify in the area through Monday, with widespread advisory winds through Tuesday morning.

The strongest winds are expected in the I-5 corridor, western Antelope Valley and Santa Ynez Rangers through Monday night, according to the forecast.

Because of Tropical Storm Kristy, mid- to high-level moisture will blanket the area, bringing with it a 15 percent chance of showers or thunderstorms for many areas, the NWS said. However, “measurable amounts will be very light,” forecasters said.

Snow levels will drop to about 6,000 feet Monday, with about an inch of snow accumulation possible at higher elevations, according to the NWS.
