The the last poll led by Ipsos and Langer Research for ABC News found that the biggest gap between Democrats and Republicans on issues considered important were abortion and immigration.

Ninety percent of Republicans told the poll that ” immigration the situation at the U.S.-Mexico border” was an extremely important issue, while 68 percent of independents and 50 percent of Democrats said the same, a 40 percentage point difference between partisans.

Ipsos discovered this abortion it was very important to 84% of Democrats, 46% of Republicans and 55% of independents, a 38 percentage point difference between the left and the right.

Partisans were closer to the economy, with 96 percent of GOP survey respondents saying it was very important, compared with 86 percent of Democrats and 90 percent of independents.

The survey found that Vice President Kamala Harris has a 2 percentage point lead with registered voters and 4 percent lead with likely votersthe latter being equal to the exit-polling lead that ABC News had for President Joe Biden in 2020.

The poll was conducted online Oct. 18-22 in English and Spanish among 2,808 adults, with 2,392 registered voters and 1,913 likely voters in the sample. The poll had a margin of error of 2 percentage points among registered voters and a margin of error of 2.5 among likely voters.

Harris is considered a more suitable and reliable candidate

Ipsos found that 58% of registered voters polled saw Harris “in good enough physical health to serve effectively as president,” compared to 29% of respondents who said the same for former President Donald Trump .

Respondents also thought Harris “is more honest and trustworthy,” “has the mental acuity to serve effectively as president,” and “understands the problems of people like you” by a double-digit margin.

Ipsos found that 90 percent of registered voters it surveyed said the economy was a very important issue, and that 48 percent of respondents thought Trump had more confidence in dealing with it, compared to Harris’ 40 percent .

Respondents told Ipsos that Harris is more trusted “to take care of the middle class” (45%-39%) and to “protect American democracy” (47%-39%).

The poll drew the candidates into voter enthusiasm, with 88 percent of Harris supporters enthusiastic about her and 85 percent of Trump supporters enthusiastic about him. According to the poll, voters in battleground states were 4 percent more likely to be contacted by the Harris campaign compared to the Trump campaign.
