Local talent Lorella Castillo strikes again, making surreal images of the world around us.

As she waited for the vaporetto to take her to the Venice Biennale, Castillo said her mind was already on art, as it tends to be when in such an artistic location.

“Then this gentleman came, sat down, opened his newspaper and was completely absorbed in it,” Castillo said in a Facebook post, “The warm, soft light of the afternoon surrounded him, creating a moment almost magical”.

The wheels in Castillo’s brain seemed to have started turning as she rushed to capture the moment and develop something “like a scene from a movie.”

“His bright red package and yellow bag caught my eye, creating a wonderful combination of colors,” she continued, “I tried to frame it in a way that was balanced and harmonious.”

The fruits of her labor are evident, successfully capturing the warmth of the scene, immersing us even more in the moment.

“In that moment, I completely forgot about the Biennale and lost myself in the beauty of that simple moment,” concluded Lorella, “We ended up missing more than a vaporetto, but I didn’t care; Venice had this way of capturing my heart.”

Earlier this year, Castillo had the nation in stitches by using his talents to create satire Saint Dum and San Ixegluthe patron saints of all things awkward in Malta.

From satire to surrealism, this photographer simply never misses.
