8 arrested in Montgomery County related to a burglary group from Romania: Police

Eight people believed to be part of a Romanian organized crime group have been arrested in Montgomery County after being linked to a series of burglaries in Montgomery and Baltimore counties, authorities said.

Last Thursday, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department officers located suspicious vehicles at a residence on Essex View Drive that had been targeted several times in recent weeks. Officers followed the suspects to another residence on Garnkirk Forest Drive in Clarksburg, where they saw them commit another burglary, the agency said.

Officials said the suspects are accused of targeting residential and commercial properties.

Following the incident, officers chased the suspects to a WaWa on S. Frederick Avenue, where they were taken into custody with the assistance of Gaithersburg Police officers.

Seven suspects were processed at the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit on charges related to the burglary. The accused persons are:

  • Mercedes Iordache, 50
  • Titina Sardaru, 57
  • Lorena Enache, 37 years old
  • Flavius ​​​​Stoican, 44
  • Dumitru Velcu, 29
  • Denisa Chiciu, 29
  • Anisoara Iordache, 54

Another suspect, a woman, was taken to a nearby hospital and has not yet been identified.

Police said the suspects were part of a Romanian organized crime group called the “Roma crew”.

The investigation into the burglaries is ongoing.
