Happy birthday Winona Ryder: When the actress said regaining fame with Stranger Things was ‘overwhelming’

Winona Ryder is one of the jewels of Hollywood. With her hard work and dedication at a very young age, she rose to fame, but in 2001, she decided to step away due to the theft incident, which sparked a major controversy. She later made a glorious comeback through Stranger Things and gained popularity again.

In 2017, Ryder talked about her comeback and quickly experienced fame again. According to the Time Of India article, she said, “It is so overwhelming. I don’t know what it’s like for really famous people… I keep hearing that people dress like me (Joyce Byers, her character in the Netflix series). I say, “What?”

At a very young age, Ryder had the opportunity to showcase his brilliant talent in several mainstream films, including the iconic adventure, Beetlejuice, Heather and Mermaids. But the popularity she gained for these projects didn’t really help make her popular in school; rather, she was taken because of them.

The actress said: “I remember thinking, ‘Ooh, (‘Beetlejuice’) is like the number one movie. He will do great things at school.” But it didn’t work in her favor and they ended up calling her a “witch”.

When she made an entry in the iconic series, it was really refreshing to watch her take to the screen after not being so involved in the industry for several years.

The Netflix show also stars Millie Bobby Brown, David Harbour, Finn Wolfhard, Noah Schnapp, Sadie Sink, Caleb McLaughlin, Gaten Matarazzo, Joe Keery, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Maya Hawk, Joseph Quinn and many more. After her appearance in Stranger Things, she has been consistent in working in the industry.

Since then, Ryder has worked on Destination Wedding, which also starred her former co-star and close friend Keanu Reeves, Haunted Mansion, Gone In The Night and the recently released Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.

The Tim Burton film also starred Michael Keaton, Catherine O’Hara, Jenna Ortega, Monica Bellucci, Willem Dafoe, Arthur Conti, Justin Theroux, Amy Nuttall and many others. The film hits theaters on September 6, 2024.
