An Erie man wanted by Millcreek Township police on assault charges in a reported road rage incident in late August was taken into custody Friday afternoon after township police said he led officers on a high-speed chase speed from Erie to Millcreek.

Michael A. Rogers, 30, was arraigned Saturday on charges that include felony counts of fleeing police and flight to elude apprehension, misdemeanor charges of causing an accident and several summary traffic violations in the pursuit . He was also arraigned on aggravated assault, simple assault and harassment in the reported road rage incident in Millcreek, according to court records.

Erie police accuse Rogers of fleeing an attempted traffic stop in an incident that began around 5:30 p.m. Friday in the 2100 block of West Eighth Street. According to police, a person allegedly saw Rogers, who the person knew was wanted in the Millcreek shooting, and called Erie police. When officers spotted the vehicle Rogers was driving and attempted to stop it near Frontier Park, the vehicle sped off, Deputy Chief Rick Lorah said Monday.

A pursuit ensued that traveled around parts of the city and onto Interstate 79 at speeds exceeding 90 mph, Lorah said. Rogers’ vehicle exited the highway at Kearsarge and traveled west on Interchange Road, where it struck an SUV on Zuck Road, slamming the SUV into a police vehicle, according to Lorah.

Rogers reportedly ran into a wooded area and removed some of his clothing before officers apprehended him. A woman who was with Rogers was also taken into custody, Lorah said.

In the Millcreek case Rogers was wanted for, Millcreek police accuse him of assaulting another man in the 2600 block of West 38th Street on Aug. 30. A motorcyclist who told police that Rogers almost hit him with his vehicle began to follow Rogers’ vehicle and when the motorcyclist confronted Rogers, the motorcyclist was punched in the face, knocked to the ground and punched again, Millcreek police reported Monday.

The victim suffered a broken nose and fractured facial bones, according to police.

Bond was set at $20,000 in each of the two cases, Rogers was arraigned Saturday. A lawyer for him was not listed on his criminal records.
