Taylor police have made an arrest in the latest stabbing in Metro Detroit

Taylor — Police have arrested a suspect in connection with a fatal stabbing Saturday — the city’s second knife-related homicide in recent weeks and the latest in a string of stabbings in Metro Detroit.

The most recent incident happened around 1:30 a.m. near Ecorse and Mayfair, four blocks west of Pelham Road, Taylor police said in a statement.

“Tragically, the victim later succumbed to his injuries at a nearby hospital,” police said. “The suspect involved in this incident has been taken into custody. Our dedicated team of detectives are actively investigating to determine the circumstances surrounding this event.”

“The Taylor Police Department would like to extend its deepest condolences to the victim’s family and friends during this difficult time,” Taylor Police said. “We are committed to a thorough investigation and will share updates as they become available.”

A Gofundme.com page from a woman who said she was the victim’s sister, raised more than $8,000 to cover funeral and cremation expenses.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Taylor police at (734) 287-6611.

The incident was the latest in a string of recent stabbings in Metro Detroit.

  • Gary Lansky, a 73-year-old Detroit man, was charged with assault with intent to kill this month after authorities said cut the throat of a 7-year-old girl in a park on the west side of the city.
  • In August, Richard Waltiere Jr. was arraigned on a charge of second-degree murder after police said the 48-year-old stabbed a 58-year-old victim near Grand Traverse Street and Missaukee Court.
