Tommy Robinson admits contempt of court after repeating a false allegation against a Syrian refugee

Tommy Robinson admitted contempt of court after he repeated false allegations against a Syrian refugee in breach of an injunction.

The 41-year-old, whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, admitted at Woolwich Crown Court that he breached an injunction given after he was successfully sued for defamation.

Those found in contempt can be jailed for up to two years, fined or both.

A 2021 High Court order barred him from repeating defamatory allegations against a Syrian refugee who sued him.

The Attorney General issued two contempt motions against Robinson earlier this year, alleging that he “knowingly” violated the order multiple times.

Robinson appeared in court today after being remanded in custody on Friday wearing a gray suit and waistcoat with no tie.

At the start of a hearing, Aidan Eardley KC, for the Attorney General, said a “resolution” had been reached on the charges and read them to the court.

When asked by Judge Johnson if he accepted committing the offences, Robinson nodded and then replied “yes”.

The hearing continues.
