Seven people were hit by a vehicle in a fight that degenerated in the early hours of Sunday in the Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie district.

A party was taking place at a reception hall on Belanger Street near 6th Ave. when an altercation reportedly began inside around 3:25 a.m., police said. The conflict continued outside.

Thirty minutes later, five more people were reported injured.

“Another 911 call was made to inform police that five other people connected to the same event went to the hospital on their own with non-life threatening injuries,” another police spokesman said , Caroline Chèvrefils.

The victims were men and women between the ages of 29 and 47. The motive for the attack remains unknown, but is part of an investigation by Montreal police.

“According to the preliminary information obtained by the police on the spot, there was a conflict that degenerated during a gathering in a reception hall,” said the police spokesman, Dubuc.

“People left the venue and a vehicle hit seven people before fleeing the scene.”

A security perimeter was constructed to protect the site and forensic identification technicians were called to the scene. The area was reopened to traffic around 6:30 a.m

It is not known what connection, if any, exists between the victims and their alleged attacker.
