Man arrested at Sky Zone after getting into altercation with off-duty deputy

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) – An 18-year-old man from Evansville was arrested Saturday night after causing a scene in the Sky Zone.

Officers responded to the business around 7:15 p.m. after the dispatcher received a 911 call of what appeared to be a struggle and lots of yelling.

Police arrived to find a large crowd using their cellphones to record an altercation between suspect Troy D. Davis Jr. and an off-duty deputy.

Davis was detained by EPD officers and placed in the back of a police car.

The off-duty deputy told police that Davis appeared agitated when he entered the SkyZone.

The deputy says Davis approached the front counter and yelled at an employee, who waved the deputy over.

According to an affidavit, the employee told Davis he was no longer allowed on the property and needed to leave.

EPD says Davis threatened to “blow up” the deputy if he touched him after he was asked to leave,

The deputy told police as Davis was leaving, he returned and appeared to attack the employee.

Authorities say that’s when the deputy grabbed Davis, causing Davis to punch him and both fell to the ground.

Police say the deputy gained control of Davis and held him down until other officers could arrive.

The SkyZone manager told officers he believed the suspect was drunk because he could smell “drink” coming from him.

During a jailhouse interview, Davis told officers he pushed the “old man” after grabbing him.

The suspect told police he did not remember hitting the deputy, nor did the deputy hit him.

According to police, Davis admitted to drinking four to five sips of Old Crow bourbon.

Troy D. Davis Jr. was arrested and faces charges of public intoxication, disorderly conduct, resisting law enforcement, criminal trespass, battery on a public safety officer and minor in possession of alcohol.
