A teenager has been charged with assaulting a man who suffered a serious head injury after he was said to have fallen backwards onto the pavement when he was punched.

Essex Police said officers were called to Chelmsford High Street just before 11.55pm BST on Friday.

They said the victim was taken to hospital, where he remained in a stable condition, and that they also discovered another man had been injured during the attack.

An 18-year-old man, from Billericay, has been charged with assault occasioning grievous bodily harm and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
