It is one of the largest and best preserved of Britain’s 3,000 abandoned medieval villages. Set on the side of a secluded and picturesque valley in the Yorkshire Wolds, the village was continuously inhabited for six centuries before being abandoned shortly after 1500.

Today, visitors can trace the outlines of many lost houses on a grassy plateau above the significant remains of the church and mill pond.
