Hyderabad: The Backward Classes Commission is all set to start public hearings on the reservation to be given to BCs on the basis of population in local bodies in the state from Monday. The state government has directed the BC Commission to decide the percentage of reservations for OBCs in local bodies.

The BC poll in the state is scheduled to be held in three phases over a period of eight weeks. The first phase will focus on listing approximately 1.2 million households. The second phase will involve enumerators collecting data from households, and in the third phase, the collected data will be processed and verified before being forwarded to the government.

The BC Commission has already issued notices for public hearings from October 28 to November 13 at the joint district headquarters and Commission office. The public hearing will begin from Adilabad district on Monday, with Commission chairman G Niranjan and members Jayaprakash, Surender and Balalakshmi attending the event.

Public hearings are scheduled to take place in various districts. They will start in Adilabad on October 28, followed by Nizamabad on October 29 and Sangareddy on October 30. The hearings will continue in Karimnagar on November 1, Warangal on November 2, Nalgonda on November 4, Khammam on November 5, Rangereddy on November 7, Mahabubnagar on November 8 and ends in Hyderabad on November 11.

Each session will be held at the respective Collectorates and integrated district office complexes. Besides these district-level hearings, the commission will hold exclusive sessions at its office for caste and welfare NGOs, institutions and associations on November 12.

A separate hearing for the general public is scheduled for November 13. Those who attended and could not raise objections can send them to the commission office in person or by mail until November 13.

Generally, enumerators would obtain information about the social, educational and economic status of citizens and whether they have political opportunities. The commission would recommend the percentage of bookings for the backward courses in the premises.

About 80,000 enumerators and 10,000 supervisors would be involved in the survey to be conducted across the state. The deadline for submitting data is December 9.
