A still from surveillance footage captured the truck that struck the Reading police officer on Saturday.Reading Police Department

A Reading police officer was struck by a passing pickup truck while conducting a traffic stop Saturday night, and police are asking for the public’s help in finding the driver, authorities said.

Reading Police Chief David Clark said the officer had stopped a car near 326 Lowell St. at Willow Street when they were struck in the corner by the side mirror of a passing pickup truck shortly before 7:30 p.m. The truck continued east on Lowell Street and turned south on Willow Street, Clark said.

The officer was treated and released from a local hospital with injuries that are not believed to be serious, Clark said.

Police said the pickup truck is red and believed to be an older model. Authorities are asking area residents to check their home surveillance cameras for any footage that may have captured the incident.

Police asked anyone with information to call the department at 781-944-1212.
