Michelle Obama worries US will ‘miss this opportunity’ at Kamala Harris rally

A “frustrated” Michelle Obama lashed out at Donald Trump during her first campaign appearance for Kamala Harris, worrying that the US will “blow this opportunity to turn the ugly page” by re-electing the former president.

The former first lady did not shy away from slamming the 45th president and his supporters alike during a rousing speech at Harris’ rally in Kalamazoo, Mich. — the first time he’s courted the vice president since the Democratic National Convention in August.

Trump supporters and undecided voters are holding Harris to a high and unfair double standard while leaving the former commander in chief with little to criticize, Obama argued.

“I hope you’ll forgive me if I’m a little frustrated that some of us choose to ignore Donald Trump’s gross incompetence while we asked Kamala to amaze us at every turn,” Obama, 60, said.

“I hope you’ll forgive me if I’m a little upset that we’re indifferent to his erratic behavior, his obvious mental decline, his record as a convicted felon, a notorious slumlord, a predator convicted of sexual abuse—all while we pick countless answers from interviews that he doesn’t even have the guts to do.”

Obama pointed to the growing list of former Trump allies who have jumped ship at MAGA in recent years as evidence of the former president’s incompetence — including his former chairman of the joint chiefs of staff. who labeled the politician as a “fascist”.

The former first lady also took aim at those who chose to abstain from the 2024 presidential election, arguing that their disregard was tantamount to voting for Trump.

“I hope you’ll forgive me if I’m worried we’re going to blow this opportunity to turn the page on ugliness once and for all. Because believe me, if Donald Trump is president again at some point or another, that ugliness will touch us for the rest of our lives,” Obama said.

“It won’t matter what you look like, how you worship, who you love or how you vote — if you don’t make six or eight or 12 figures, if you’re not famous, if you criticize him or disagree with him. in any way, if he doesn’t consider you equal or relevant to his ambitions. I promise you he won’t be thinking about you when he walks into the Oval Office, and that will have real consequences for all of us.”

Harris continued Trump’s divisiveness when Obama welcomed her to the rally stage.

The veep snuck in several digs while touting his resume as a district attorney, district attorney, and California attorney general.

“In those roles, we took on all kinds of perpetrators: lenders, fraudsters and repeat offenders. We took them on and won,” the Democratic presidential candidate said.

“Well, Michigan. In 10 days, it’s Donald Trump’s turn.”

Although familiar, the dig led to an eruption of cheers throughout the Wings Events Center.
