Two men have been arrested following a road traffic collision in Eglinton

Police have arrested two men following a road traffic collision in Eglinton in the early hours of this morning, Saturday 26 October.

Inspector McDonald said: “We received a report at around 12.15pm that a red Volkswagen Polo had been driven towards a man, who managed to swerve out of the way before it crashed into a wall in the Main Street area. A short time later, the car then collided with a second man.

“Officers attended the scene and found the suspect, a 19-year-old man, in the passenger seat of another car in the Greysteel area. He was arrested on suspicion of several offences, including failing to stop at the scene of an accident causing injury and driving with excess alcohol in his breath.

“The driver of the second car, a 51-year-old man, was also arrested on suspicion of driving with excess alcohol in his breath. Both men have since been released on police bail to allow further enquiries.

“The man who was hit by the car, aged in his late teens, was taken to hospital where he remains being treated for his injuries.

“We would ask anyone who witnessed the incident or anything suspicious in the area, or who has dash cam footage, to contact police on 101 quoting reference 1574 25/10/24.”
