Arne Slot admits his emotions get the better of him at times after receiving a yellow card for protesting last weekend – as Liverpool prepare for their toughest test of the season against Arsenal.

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has pledged to be a good role model as he faces fellow title contenders Arsenal and their own passionate manager Mikel Arteta.

With footballing behavior under the spotlight ahead of Sunday’s heavyweight clash at the Emirates, Slot admitted he got the better of him when he was booked for protesting against Chelsea last weekend. Arteta is regarded as one of the most intense bosses in England and was suspended last season after picking up three yellow cards.

A more serious case saw Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis banned for five matches last week after spitting near officials. Wolves sporting director Matt Hobbs was charged with misconduct by the FA after confronting officials in the tunnel after losing to Manchester City, while Jose Mourinho was shown a red card during Fenerbahce’s v Manchester United on Thursday.

Speaking about his own position, Slot said: “If I use my common sense, I’d say we’re role models. But we are also human beings. Sometimes we feel that if too many decisions come against you, your emotions get the best of you. “We try to be role models. I speak for myself. I’m trying to keep calm, but in the Chelsea game, too many important decisions went against my team.’

Slot is adamant that the high standard of English refereeing means managers should not put pressure on officials.

“We’ve seen it once or twice in European competitions, managers who have managed to influence the referee and then you feel maybe you have to do something about it,” he added.

“But here in England I haven’t experienced that at all. The refs just weren’t swayed by my emotional act on Sunday and they haven’t been in all the previous games here either.
