Man accused of recording people in church bathroom

BLOOMINGDALE, Ill. (WLS) – A man has been arrested for allegedly recording people inside a suburban Chicago church.

Police said the camera was hidden in a women’s bathroom and had been there for months.

The 24-year-old from Atlanta was arrested for illegally recording people at the World Mission Society Church in Bloomingdale, Illinois.

The DuPage County District Attorney identified the man as Ramon Ochoa Garcia.

He now faces charges of unauthorized videotaping of a person under 18 and unauthorized videotaping without consent.

Investigators said Garcia placed a small pen camera in a vent to record people in the women’s bathroom at the church.

Police said this started as early as August 1.

Later, a pastor at the church found the pen and reported it to the police.

Prosecutors believe at least 24 victims have been registered, including two young girls.

A judge rejected a prosecutor’s request to hold Garcia before his trial, despite their argument that he would be a flight risk because he allegedly lives in a van.

The church said it had no comment on the incident as police continue to investigate the matter

Police also said Garcia could face additional charges as they find more potential victims.
