Is homemade lemonade cheaper at a restaurant?

Have you ever made your own lemonade at the table to avoid racking up a big restaurant tab? This server says you should stop it.

TikTok user Liz Bezler (@lizbezler) is back with another working skit. Earlier, she went viral for her sketches The olive garden and Texas Roadhouse. Once again, she embodies both the server and the client in this iteration.

“Hi. My name is Liz. I’ll be your server today. Can I start you off with some drinks?” asks the server. “Hi. How much is your lemonade?” the customer answers. When the server tells the customer that a lemonade is $3.50 with free refills, the customer is not happy.

“Oh my God. Well, this is absolutely ridiculous. I won’t pay for it,” says the customer. Instead, they try to find a backdoor. “We’ll just take water,” she says. “We’ll just do the tap with light ice.” Before Liz can ask another question, the customer interrupts her by listing her demands.

The lemonade loophole

“But wait, I’m not done. I’m going to want three whole lemons. For example, lemons whole but cut into 10 slices per lemon. So that’s 30 lemon slices. And then a whole bowl of sugar,” she says. And there can be no other alternatives.

“No Splenda, no Stevia. Like, real sugar cane,” she demands. “And then I’ll also need a spoon because we’re only going to make lemonade. I don’t know why you charge $3.50 for a lemonade when people can make it for free.”

Then the server sarcastically remarks, “Wow. I never thought about that.” In addition, the client plans to reduce Liz’s tip.

“Honestly, since I’m going to make our lemonade myself, that just means I’m taking some of your work off your plate, which means you won’t get as much of a tip because I’m doing the work for you. If you don’t want to make me homemade lemonade, then we can give you an extra tip,” she says. “It’s all up to you.”

However, it seems this is a regular occurrence for Bezler, writing in the caption: “Another day, another Karen.”

How common are DIY lemonades at restaurants?

The video has garnered over 55,000 views. In the comments, users suggested the server fee for the various lemonade components.

“Absolutely! It’s going to cost $11 for all of this,” remarked one viewer.

“OK, great! Lemons are $2 each,” commented a second.

“If someone did that and my manager made them pay for the lemonade,” said one user.

“I had a friend whose husband did this every time we went out to eat,” another recalled.

“The place I used to work used to give 2/3 lemon slices per person, then they charged a dollar for each whole lemon. A whole lemon would be 4 slices,” revealed a third.

Previously, the Daily Dot covered customers making their own lemonade at restaurants. A single server explode customers for doing so to prevent being charged $2.61 for a lemonade while another only CHARGED her customers for a regular lemonade.
