Morse will support a child-friendly Portland

As a teacher and aunt, I believe it is important to cultivate a more child-friendly Portland. That’s why I support Todd Morse’s candidacy for City Council in District 1. He has repeatedly emphasized the need for quality infrastructure for pedestrians, bicyclists and transit. These networks promote children’s development of independence by allowing access to local facilities and nearby friends without the need for a ride from carers (as long as children can use them safely). And in an era of declining in-person interaction between children and adolescents, it is imperative that our built environment supports youth autonomy and community.

Morse believes paths and parks should be accessible, well-lit and needle-free. He proposed implementing traffic calming measures, adopting a Vision Zero plan, increasing METRO frequency and advancing the Franklin Street redesign. If elected, I am confident Morse will take these concrete steps toward a streetscape and city where children can better play, grow and thrive.
