A burglary suspect who authorities say shot the police chief of a Texas Panhandle town three weeks ago was arrested Friday, Oct. 25, in Fort Worth.

Seth Altman, 33, was at the Tarrant County Union Gospel Mission in the 1300 block of East Lancaster Avenue when Fort Worth police arrested him around 5 p.m. on suspicion of attempted murder of a police officer. peace.

Memphis Police Chief Rex Plant was shot on Oct. 3 when he and another officer tried to arrest Altman in a burglary case, KVII-TV reported. Chief Plant went to the back door of an apartment and the other officer went to the front. Altman exited the back door, shot Plant and fled, authorities said.

Plant was airlifted to a hospital in Lubbock, where he was reported to be stable.

Altman was last seen walking or running in Memphis, heading toward US Highway 287.

Memphis is located in Hall County, approximately 135 miles southeast of Amarillo and 250 miles northwest of Fort Worth.
