Devon Woodland session to help veterans manage stress

Veterans in North Devon have been invited to take part in an event which aims to help them with their mental health.

The Root Cause Project, a social enterprise founded by ex-servicemen, will hold a free session at Hakeford Woods, near Barnstaple, at 10am BST.

Founder Roy Goddin said the session would provide a safe space for ex-military personnel to share their experiences with like-minded people and learn how to manage stress.

“We combined our mental health expertise, survival skills and military experience with the healing power of nature,” he said.

Mr Goddin, a former naval commando and qualified teacher, said the Root Cause Project was created as a safety net for veterans and serving personnel.

He said the session was “a space where our military family can find the support they deserve.”

The event will involve sitting around a fire, chatting with fellow veterans, participating in woodcraft, forest management or wild cooking, he added.
