A homeowner is upset after fly-tippers targeted his driveway

A homeowner was left with limited access to get in and out of the home after garden waste was dumped in the driveway.

Richard Owen Vinton, 79, from Bungay in Suffolk, discovered he had been targeted by fly-tipping and believed it happened between 08:00 and 10:00 BST on Friday.

He said he contacted East Suffolk Council, who told him officers would make inquiries and clear the rubbish within three working days from the Beccles Road home.

Mr Vinton was angered by the incident and said: “It’s not as if there aren’t official waste and advice sites where things like this can legally be left.”

Mr Vinton added: “My people from Bungay Community Service, who kindly do my shopping for me, came but they couldn’t get in my way and rang me and asked if I had a tree down recently.

“Then I managed to get out to look for myself and I thought this wasn’t caused by one of my trees so I knew it was the tip of the fly.

“I can walk on the road but if I needed an ambulance I don’t think they would be able to take me.

“It must have been done by a dump truck and at the top of the pile someone left their tip behind.”

Mr Vinton said he called the police and was then put through to the council.

“They said they would call to see if anyone local knew anything, but said it could be two or three days before it’s cleared and I have a medical appointment next Wednesday.

“It’s going to be hard to get out of the house, so I hope the council can get it done quickly.”

Mr Vinton appealed to all drivers on Beccles Road to report any suspicious activity they may have seen.

East Suffolk Council has been contacted for comment.
