Cyclone Dana made landfall in coastal Odisha, India, after midnight on Thursday, bringing heavy rain and winds of 100-110 km/h. However, Bangladesh was spared any major storms or disasters as the cyclone started to weaken after landfall.

The sky over the capital was slightly cloudy on Friday (October 25) morning, but by the afternoon, the sun had made an appearance. Weather conditions in Chattogram, Barishal and Khulna divisions are currently stable.

After facing cloudy weather from the morning of October 23, light rain was reported till the afternoon of October 24, accompanied by gusty winds in some areas. However, by Friday evening, most regions saw a cessation of rain, returning to normal weather patterns.

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) said Cyclone Dana, which was located over the North West Gulf and adjacent coasts of Odisha and West Bengal, moved north-northwest, crossing the North Odisha coast around at 3 a.m. Friday and later weakening into a cyclonic storm. , and then into a deep depression.

The cyclone is expected to continue moving west-northwestward and gradually weaken further. While strong or strong winds may still affect North Bay, seaports and adjacent coastal areas of Bangladesh, the BMD has assured that the likelihood of major storms is minimal.

BMD meteorologist Omar Faruq said: “The cyclone has turned into a deep depression and has remained over the Odisha area of ​​India. So, heavy rains are not forecast in Bangladesh. Light rain may occur in Khulna, Jashore, Satkhira, Mongla and adjoining areas. , but not heavy rains.”

He also mentioned that rainfall will decrease day by day along with a drop in temperature.

The BMD bulletin on Friday evening indicated that “light to moderate rain or shower with lightning accompanied by temporary gusty winds is likely to occur at a few places over Rajshahi and Khulna divisions and at one or two places in Rangpur, Dhaka, Mymensingh divisions , Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet. .”

The highest rainfall recorded on Friday was 82 mm in Chuadanga, followed by 49 mm in Koyra, 40 mm in Mongla, 35 mm in Khulna and 32 mm in Jashore.

As for the India Meteorological Department, they confirmed that the landfall process was complete and the cyclone was gradually weakening into a depression as it moved inland.
