Pedestrian, 78, struck and killed while crossing NJ road

A 78-year-old man was struck and killed while crossing a road in Cumberland County on Wednesday, police said.

A Vineland woman was making a left turn from Fairmount Avenue to head south on North Main Road in Vineland around 5 p.m. when her SUV struck pedestrian George Chryssomitis as he crossed the road. He was walking in the center turn lane when he was struck on North Main Road, according to police.

Chryssomitis, a Vineland resident, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

No charges have been filed, but the crash remains under investigation, authorities said Friday.

Anyone with information related to the case is asked to call Vineland police at 856-691-4111, ext. 4942.
