The convictions come after seven other men were convicted in 2022 for their roles in the operation, including Asif Hussain from Bolton, the man identified by police as the ringleader.

The group stole 97 vehicles between 2020 and 2021, including the Ranger Rover, BMW, Porsche and Mercedes brands.

Asif Matadar, 40, from Bolton, was jailed for three years and six months for conspiracy to steal, while Zeeshan Ali, 34, from Tameside, was jailed for three years and nine months for conspiracy to deal in stolen property.

Shewaz Rehman, 29, from Oldham, was jailed for four years and nine months for conspiracy to handle stolen property and Imran Taj, 43, also from Oldham, was jailed for four years for same charge.

Adam Elwood, 30, from Chadderton, was jailed for six years for two counts of handling stolen property and drug offences, and Mohammed Irfan, 26, from Oldham, was to three years in prison for conspiracy to handle stolen property.

James Hopkinson, 29, from Oldham, was given an eight-month prison sentence suspended for 12 months for handling stolen goods.

The gang had threatened to kill one of the victims with a hammer before stealing one of the vehicles.

Other cars were taken when the gang posed as valets at Manchester Airport.

“Car theft has a massive impact on people’s lives,” said DCI Smethurst,

“A lot of people had these cars on finance deals and were thousands of pounds out of pocket,” he said.
