Jenna OrtegaHis story as a child actress is a special one.

In the NBC News Studios documentary series My generationOrtega — who serves as narrator for the final episode, exploring all things Gen Z — shares how she got started.

A 7-year-old girl can be seen introducing herself at the start of the clip, then going into a dramatic monologue.

“My mom took this video and put it on Facebook for her friends and they liked it. Somehow, it eventually made its way to a casting agent and the rest is history,” she says. “Like a lot of Gen Zers, you could say my career was launched online as well.”

Ortega rose to stardom as a Disney child actress, later landing roles Jane the Virgin and Stuck in the middle.

Despite the fact that fame came at a young age, Ortega told PEOPLE in 2017 that her family — mother Natalie, father Edward and siblings Isaac, Mariah, Mia, Aliyah and Markus — “keep my feet on the ground.”

“I love being able to go home to the Coachella Valley and see my family and friends who have been with me since day one. It’s nice to always have them by my side,” she shared.

Ortega added that her clan does not allow her to shirk domestic responsibilities. “I get home from set and they don’t forget to tell me there are dishes in the sink waiting for me,” she added.

Gen Z’s unique experience of growing up online and turning a viral moment into a career opens up exciting possibilities for rising stars, the documentary explains.

“Before there were gatekeepers who decided who the next superstars were. What’s really exciting about Gen Z is that they really have the power,” says Arleta Fowler, agent at Creative Artists Agency.

Alex Ma, co-founder of Poparazzi, agrees. “Anyone can now become an entertainer from their living room. You kind of let the people decide, so it’s almost like democratized television.”
