A major road is closed after a man fell from a bridge. Police were called to East Lancashire Road near the junctions of Rainford Road and Abbey Road St Helens around 1.20pm on Friday 25 October.

A Merseyside Police spokesman confirmed that a man had fallen from a bridge in the area. It is not clear the extent of the man’s injuries and emergency services are currently at the scene, including police and the ambulance service.

A road is currently closed on East Lancs Road near its junction with Rainford Road. A police spokesman added: “We are asking motorists to avoid the area and find an alternative route while the incident is dealt with. Thank you for your patience.”

According to the Inrix traffic management system, there is “slow traffic” in the area. It added: “A580 East Lancashire Road closed in both directions, slow traffic due to police incident from Moss Bank Road to A570 Rainford Road (Windle Traffic Lights).”
