7th grade boy detained after Tri-State school went on lockdown

MIDDLETOWN, Ohio (WXIX) – A Butler County school district was placed on immediate lockdown after receiving a threat Friday.

According to the Butler County Sheriff’s Office, a Madison Local School District employee received a voicemail from an unknown subject at 7:36 a.m. The subject threatened to “shoot up the school.”

District officials put the schools on lockdown and notified law enforcement.

A seventh-grade boy was taken into custody and is being interviewed by detectives, Butler County Sheriff’s Sgt. Kim Peters said.

The district says all students are safe and classes are canceled for the rest of the day.

Primary school buses return students home and parents on the starting line will need to take their children home as well.

Middle and high school students will be bused back home at 10:00 a.m. and student drivers will be released.

The sheriff’s office has not released the name of the detained subject.

If anyone has more information about the incident, contact the Madison School Board at 513-420-4750.
