Early in-person voting in Michigan begins Saturday: How it works

Early in-person voting begins Saturday in Michigan for the 2024 presidential election.

In November 2022, Michigan voters approved a constitutional amendment that gave voters the right to vote early and in person at early voting locations. The first time Michigan allowed early in-person voting for a statewide election was for the 2024 presidential primary on Tuesday, February 27, 2024.

Early in-person voting is now an option for all state and national elections in Michigan.

Here’s what you need to know:

Who can vote early?

Any registered voter in Michigan can also vote early in person at an early voting site for state and federal elections.

What is the early voting process like?

Early in-person voting works much the same as regular in-person voting. Voters will receive a ballot, fill it out and then enter it directly into a tabulator.

How to find your early voting location

You can search for your assigned early voting site up to 60 days before Election Day at Michigan.gov/Vote. Some voters have only one early voting site assigned, and others may have multiple locations to choose from.

When does early voting end?

Early voting ends on Sunday, November 3.

Do I need a photo ID?

Not. Although voters should bring a photo ID to an early voting site, it is not required. Voters who do not have a photo ID, or who forgot to bring one, can still vote after signing an affidavit.

Can you register to vote at an early voting site?

Not. Voters cannot register to vote at an early voting site unless the site is also a clerk’s office.

Michigan residents can register to vote in person at their local clerk’s office until 8:00 p.m. on Election Day.

Can you change your vote after voting early?

Not. Once a ballot has been entered into a tabulator, it cannot be changed.
