Passenger hits Bengaluru bus conductor on head with stone during service over monthly pass dispute: Report | Bengaluru

In a disturbing incident, a Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) bus conductor was assaulted during his lunch break near Fabrica de Tine bus stand. The attack followed an altercation with a passenger three days earlier over the use of a monthly pass, Hindu reported.

According to a BMTC statement accessed by the publication, an unknown assailant entered the bus and hit the conductor on the head with a stone. The conductor along with the bus driver quickly chased the attacker and with the help of BMTC colleagues successfully caught him and brought him back to the bus, the report said.

On questioning, the attacker revealed that he was a passenger on the same bus days before and clashed with the conductor over the issue of the monthly pass, which apparently motivated his violent actions.

The driver received prompt medical attention at CV Raman Hospital thanks to the quick actions of the depot manager and the traffic controller. Fortunately, his injuries were not serious, the publication said.

Following the incident, BMTC officials filed a formal complaint at the Mahadevapura police station. The suspect, identified as Hemanth, is currently in police custody, the report added.

This incident reflects recent safety concerns within the BMTC system. In another case, a 25-year-old man stabbed a bus conductor in a crowded vehicle near Whitefield, leading to widespread panic. Investigations revealed that the attacker intended to attack his former employer. A video of the incident has gone viral on social media.

Additionally, a separate incident involved the suspension of a BMTC conductor after a viral video showed him physically confronting a passenger over a 5 change the dispute. He was heard asking the passenger to speak in Kannada.
